The Romans Road

Even though this page is called the Romans Road, we want to start off with a verse from the book of John. John 14:6 says, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” In this verse Jesus is talking to the apostle Thomas, who had asked Christ how Jesus’ apostles could know the way to where He was going. In His response Christ makes it clear that there is no other way to get to Heaven where the Father (God) is than through Jesus. It’s not through Mohammed, Buddah, Confucius, any philosophy, any religion, good works, or any certain denomination. It is only through the shed blood of Jesus and His sacrifice that we are able to spend eternity in Heaven after life on this earth is over.

Now, let’s look at some verses in Romans that tell us why we need Jesus and what He has done for us.

Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” God is Holy and Righteous. Therefore He cannot allow any unrighteousness (sin) in His presence in Heaven. This verse tells us that every one of us has sinned. So we know God cannot allow us to be in His presence in our sinful condition.

Romans 6:23 tells us what the penalty for our sin is. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Our penalty is death. Not only physical death, but a spiritual death. That death is a separation from God for eternity in a place of torment called Hell. It is a punishment that never ends. But this verse also tells us that instead of eternal death, God offers us the free gift of eternal life.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God knew from eternity past that we would all chose to sin against Him in our lives. He knew that none of us would ever be “good enough” to enter Heaven on our own merit. Yet, He loves us so much that He provided a way for us to have our penalty paid. He sent His only Son, Jesus, to live upon this earth in the form of a man. Jesus lived a sinless, perfect life on this earth. He then took all the sins of the world upon Himself when He was crucified on the cross. No one on this earth took Christ’s life from Him. They did not have that power. Christ willingly gave Himself as the perfect, sinless, spotless sacrifice for all men, so that they may have the opportunity to have eternal life. Three days later Christ rose from the grave under His own power to triumph over death, Hell and the grave.

So how do we accept this free gift God has offered to us? We can’t do enough good works to earn it. We can’t buy it. We can’t get it by being “religious”. The only way is to willingly accept it like any gift offered to us. Romans 10:9-10 says, “that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved; for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

All you need to do is admit you are a sinner and cannot get to Heaven on your own merit. You have to believe that Jesus is who He says He is (fully God) and sacrificed His life to pay the penalty for your sin. You have to believe that Jesus is raised from the dead and is living in Heaven at this moment. Then you have to be willing to pray to God and admit that you are a sinner. You have to tell Him you want to accept Jesus’ sacrifice as payment for your sin, make Christ Lord of your life and live for Him. If you sincerely pray that prayer of acceptance, and believe in your heart the things God says in His Word, you too will have the gift of eternal life.

After reading this page you now have a choice to make. Either you accept Christ, or you reject Him. We urge you today to accept Him and receive this free gift.
