“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.”

Psalm 136:1

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.

Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”

Psalm 100:4

Greetings, everyone!

Well, tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day (or today or yesterday, depending on when you’re reading this), so I wanted to start this newsletter off with a couple of verses from the Psalms that remind us to be thankful to the Lord.  We all have so many blessings to be thankful for, and the Lord is the One who has given us those blessings, so it is to Him our thanks should be directed.  We should never take our blessings for granted.  The Bible says the Lord is worthy of our praise.  Let’s not confine our thanks and praise to Him to just Thanksgiving Day, but let us proclaim it every day throughout the year!

Our singing schedule has slowed down as we enter the late fall and winter months.  One of our blessings is that since Labor Day weekend Cheryl has been able to make all of our singing dates except one.  We had successful benefit concerts for the LC Clinics up in Iowa and Coyote Hill Christian Children’s Home here in Missouri, a great time at the Southwest Missouri Gospel Sing in El Dorado Springs, the annual hymn sing up in Stuart, IA, and several churches here locally (West Cuivre Baptist in Laddonia, Prairie Grove Baptist in Columbia, First Baptist in Chamois, and our home church, Antioch Baptist in Centralia).

At this time we have four concerts in December.  A benefit concert for KJAB Christian Radio in Mexico, MO on the 2nd; the men’s prison in Moberly, MO on the 11th; At the Cross Fellowship Church in Fayetteville, MO on the 19th; and our New Year’s Eve Gospel Sing in Mexico, MO on the 31st, which will include a soup supper.

You will find a poster with the information for the KJAB concert at the bottom of this newsletter.  The Matt Carroll Family will also be singing.  We hope those of you who are local to the Mexico area will come out to hear some great Christmas music to focus our attention on Christ as the reason we celebrate, as well as take advantage of the opportunity to help keep a Christian radio station on the air.

The New Year’s Eve Sing will be held at the Mexico Church of God Holiness Christian Life Center.   Joining us will be our special musical guests: Heirs Together from Republic, MO; Gary Freeland from Panora, IA; and Hillsong Duet from Galesburg, IL.

The soup supper starts at 5:00 pm. Soups, drinks and tableware will be provided. If possible, please bring enough food (dish, snacks or desserts) to share with others. Music starts at 6:00 pm, with each group performing for 25-30 minutes each. There is no admission charge for the meal or the concert, but free will donations will be accepted and appreciated to help with the singing groups’ expenses.

Last year we had a good crowd, and several of our friends from out of town attended.  We’d love to have many of our out of town friends attend again this year to share a great evening of fellowship, food and fun to bring in the New Year!   There are three motels within four miles of the Christian Life Center.  Here is the information on those motels in Mexico if you wish to come to the sing and spend the night.

Days Inn:   2902 South Clark Street     (573)-581-1860     1.8 miles from Life Center

Best Western:   3602 South Clark Street     (573)-582-0700    2.5 miles from Life Center

Amerihost Inn:   900 Vance Road    (573)-582-0055    4.0 miles from Life Center

We’re hoping to see you at one of our upcoming concerts.  I know Cheryl especially would love to be able to see many of our singing friends she hasn’t been able to see over the last couple of years.  I’m hoping the New Year’s Eve sing will be a chance for many of our Iowa and Nebraska friends to attend and get a chance to visit with us.  We definitely miss seeing you over the long winter months!

We hope each of you has a blessed Thanksgiving Day.  We want you to know we count each one of you as a blessing the Lord has given us.  We’d love to hear from you and get an update on how you are and how the Lord has been working in your life.

In closing, we want to leave you with two more scriptures that address being thankful.

“I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify Him with thanksgiving.”

Psalm 69:30

“I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.”

Psalm 9:1

Let’s give thanks to the Lord every day for all He’s given us, and also be willing to tell others of all His marvelous works.  Let’s also remember that all we have and every blessing we receive is all…..
